Is the SPARC architecture still relevant as the goal of the JIT compiler for high-performance servers?

X86 and AMD64 are the most important architectures for many computing environments (desktops, servers, and supercomputers). Obviously, the JIT compiler must support both of them in order to be recognized.

Until recently, the SPARC architecture was the logical next step for the compiler, especially in high-end server markets. But now that the sun is dead, everything is not clear.

Oracle does not seem to be really interested in this, and some large projects are abandoning support for this architecture (e.g. Ubuntu). But, on the other hand, the OpenSPARC initiative aimed at opening the latest generation of source processors is very promising, which means that many manufacturers can soon implement and use SPARC for free.

So, is SPARC still a good choice as the next target architecture for the JIT compiler? Or is it better to choose another (POWER, ARM, MIPS, ...)?

I do not know more about you about the future of SPARC. I hope he has one; it was tragic how many good architectures died out, and x86 kept going.
