.htpasswd / .htaccess allows * almost * working with any password

Question

I installed .htaccess / .htpassword and it works, except when I entered the password incorrectly, it writes me down anyway. If I use a completely different password, it does not work. Another username, it does not work.

But if I use the correct username and basically the correct password, does it work?

Example:

The password I use is "firefight", and "firefighter" seems to work. "Hose" will not be.

Any clue?
