UIPopover Background Image Capture

Question

I am trying to replicate the look of an iPad passcode. Which is basically a popover without an arrow direction, which blocks a background view similar to a modal view controller.

My question is: is there a way to block the main background view when popover view.

My idea: the only real solution I could come up with is placing this popover inside a modal controller. and presenting him that way.

Thoughts?
