Hosting for Windows Workflow Designer

Does anyone have experience locating the surface of a Windows Workflow designer? I saw some rather difficult examples for MSDN, but not much more - of course, nothing that would give an explanation in the process of hosting WF that would be clear or easy to read ... Are there any better resources for hosting WF (or a work surface, similar to a workflow - I'm not necessarily tied to WF), what really makes sense ?
