Image Detection Inside Image

Question

Usually I play a game called Burako . It has several colored pieces with numbers from 1 to 13.

After the match you have to count your points. For instance:

 1 == 15 points
 2 == 20 points

I want to create an application that will take a picture and count pieces for it. So I need something that recognizes the image inside the image.

I was going to read about OpenCV, since there is an Android port , but it feels like there should be something easier to do.

What do you think?

I have not used the Android port, but I think it works in good light.
