Cvs update error

Question

I am using WinCVS and when I try to update a module I keep getting this error

cvs [update aborted]: reading from server: error -1

What is the actual problem here and how to solve this problem?

I had such and similar problems that were resolved by trying to change my CVSROOT pserver line to include the @ hostname / cvs username. Also log out of cvs, then log in again. I do not know exactly why this worked, since they should be equivalent.

This may cause a problem with your antivirus / firewall. Disable / Uninstall them and try again.
