Continuous query using jQuery

After using Meebo, I noticed that they had a nice small system for continuously receiving information from the server. They have one single request, and they constantly track the response as a “download”.

I was wondering if there is a way to do this using jQuery. If not, can someone give me some recommendations on where to start doing this in plain Javascript?

Thanks in advance

(PS, because I know that someone will say this - I know about backend problems that may arise, and I believe that they have the right knowledge to prevent this)

The comet will work better if you have a dedicated web server. BOSH is the same.

Take a look at the APE Comet-server. Read http://www.ape-project.org/ajax-push.html and then select any Comet / BOSH software specifically for your needs. Good luck)
