How accurate are U.S. GIS data?

We would like to introduce a slightly different behavior in our web application for those who visit a certain state (Florida) and those who are in the rest of the country (and the world).

It doesn’t matter if it is 100% accurate, but it’s good in the 90s - it’s normal if several Florida people see a different version, while others see a version of Florida.

What is your experience identifying users at the state level based on their IP address?

Yes, I understand the theoretical limitations of using this information (Internet providers, proxies, yada yada), but I do not know how this happens in the real world. There are excellent answers about different providers and accuracy , but they really do not meet our state requirements, an empirical question. Google provides some , but not the information we are looking for.

Thank. We do not want to use this approach if it does not work well enough.
