OpenID with Drupal 6/7

In Drupal 6 (or even the next 7), is it possible to use OpenID just like stackoverflow?

For instance:

  • Click "login" and send it to the login page where you can log in with any OpenID account (for example, google, yahoo, facebook, wordpress ...)
  • For example, if you select yahoo as your OpenID account, you are directed to yahoo, log in there, and then redirected back.
  • run the captcha check and agree to the conditions to get the user name automatically assigned to you (i.e. User001234)
  • And that’s all - registration is done
  • Then you can change your screen name and gravatar, as well as any other profile information.

I think steps 1-3 are possible, but could it be for the registration process? I read in several places that this is not possible with Drupal, but the threads are outdated or unclear as to what is being discussed, so I'm not sure if they are correct.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Edit: I understand that this functionality cannot be out of the box. But “maybe”, I mean, can this be done without spending a year on mine, as a module development for drupal?
