Read 1D barcode (code 128) directly from the pdf file

Question

Does anyone have any experience with a tool (it can also be commercial) that can extract barcodes directly from a pdf file? Most of the tools I've seen can only read barcodes from images.

Well, the important question is:

Is the barcode in the PDF barcode form field? If so, pretty much any library that can work in PDF format can do the trick. PDF barcode form fields are simply text fields with an appearance stream for displaying a barcode. However, the text value of the barcode is exactly the data you were looking for (and therefore would not have to worry about the appearance stream).

If not, and the barcode is on the scanned PDF (and therefore in the image inside), you can use something like:

• QuickPDF http://www.quickpdf.org/
