Where are SQL Server Management Studio queries actually executed?

If I use SQL Server Management Studio on my local computer to execute a query that processes data on one or more remote servers, where do the actual calculations take place? Does it use my local resources or a remote server?

Remote server.

SQL Server Management Studio does not have a query engine built into it. It simply sends your request to the server you are connecting to and receives the results (and the query plan used, if you request it).

however, if it is said that if you are connecting to a local and remote linked server, in some case the sql server will pull the rows to the local server for further processing of the result set
