Set a Global Culture for Silverlight 4.0 Client

Question

Date formatting has always been painful because it defaults to American MM / dd / yyyy. How to set default culture for Silverlight 4.0 client? It would be better, but not essential, if it were based on the user's regional settings.

Applying a format string or converter for each date field is not ideal.
