How to compile LaTeX table exported from R?

I am completely new to LaTeX and installed the MacTeX 2009 package with the intention of having tables from R output in LaTeX and formatting as PDF.

I get the following LaTeX code (below) when I run the example in R (it displays ok in R, but I would like to use TeXshop). However, when I paste this into the TeXshop window, I get the following error:

./Untitled.tex: 2: LaTeX error: environment table undefined

I am sure that there is something very basic that I am not here.

% latex.default(cstats, title = title, caption = caption, rowlabel = rowlabel,
%               col.just = col.just, numeric.dollar = FALSE, insert.bottom = legend,
% rowname = lab, dcolumn = dcolumn, extracolheads = extracolheads,
%               extracolsize = Nsize, ...)

  • To set up a document, you need a template that LaTeXTemplate must do in TexShop.
  • Your \begin{table}commented on previous%

\documentclass[11pt]{article}
\begin{document}

\begin{table}[!tbp]

If you use the stargazer package (available on CRAN), you can use the out = "filename.tex" argument to output LaTeX code directly to the Tex document. Then this document is easy to compile.
