In Eclipse, is there a way to open a file by typing its path and name?

IDEs are great for many things. But I don’t like the way they make me use the GUI for something that I can do faster by typing on the command line. For example, opening a known file. If I know the file name, from the command line I can simply enter the name of my editor and the file name. With the completion of the tab, I can do this very quickly in a reliable time. No search through exit or finger movement from the keyboard.

Is there a way in Eclipse to open a known file by simply typing its path + file name? Maybe through a plugin?

The "Open Resource" shortcut (ctrl-shift-R) is almost everything, but it allows you to enter a file name, not a path. If you have several files with the same name in different directories, you should again search with the mouse for what you want.

Actually, if you use Helios (Eclipse 3.6), you can use paths; see the “New Features in the Open Resources” dialog box in this version of the “New and Noteworthy” page for more information .

Alternatively, you can insert a tab in the list of results and use the arrows to select the correct one.
