Google Chrome and favicon

Ive created 64x64 icons to create the im site and display it in order. But then in Google Chrome, when I click "Create Application Shortcut", it resizes the icon to [what it looks like] 16x16 for the desktop / taskbar icon that it does. It looks really stupid - since I can make Chrome not resize it, and end up with a nice clear, not blurry icon?

You cannot force an application not to resize a 64x64 image when it is displayed in 16x16 space.

Are you using real favicon.ico or another image format? ICO files can contain different images with different sizes and color depths in one file. Add 16x16, which looks clear, not blurry, and add it to the ICO file.

Check out How do I customize the look and feel of the Google Chrome shortcuts that point to my page? in the Google Chrome FAQ.

The short answer is another kind of meta tag:

<link rel="icon" href="gmail_32x32.png" sizes="32x32"/>
<link rel="icon" href="gmail_48x48.png" sizes="48x48"/>

You can create good icons (with transparency and multiple .ICO resolutions) in GIMP using this tutorial .

It's good to know that .ICO is the only file format that works well for all browsers.
