According to the ACM Java Task Force charter :
Learn Java language, APIs and tools from the point of view of primary computer education and develop a stable collection of pedagogical resources that will facilitate the teaching of Java to students participating in the first year of study, without making students complexity.
Therefore, I doubt that any of their codes is really intended for use in "real life" projects ...
