What separates itself from trained professional abominators?

I have been developing C # / ASP.NET for several years (and now ASP.NET MVC). I am a 100% tutorial, and I would like to believe that I try to do what is best, but ...

My question is, what do you think separates self-trained developers from trained professional developers? What methods, in C #, would you consider as advanced - that self-trained developers might not have taken upon themselves?

lets say,
from 100 developers, 5 are very motivated by their passion for technology and they themselves teach them what they think, this is the best thing to know.

the other 95 developers will be trained by these 5 developers and, in their opinion, the best methods.

Best practices / methods:
IMOs are ways to develop a software product that, as you know, leads to the creation of a workable and supported system, and these methods come with experience in developing a real software system, and not with a training course.
