How does gmail support user login?

I wonder how gmail / Google registers the user in all sessions. And how (like cookies) and what (like time) do they use to decide to re-invite the user to log in?

The short answer is that cookies should not end when you close the browser or the machine on which they are located. Depending on the restrictions configured in the browser, if the server sets an expiration date in the future, the browser will continue to present a cookie until this expiration date.
