Manage the contents of a WinWord document for printing icons. Best practice

I need to create a winword document for an icon printing application.

The main scenario is as follows: The user selects employees from the list, clicks “print badges”, the word winword appears, allowing the user to make some issues before printing. Icons should be presented in a table with some columns. Each table cell has an image background (icon), some text (company, year), user name and user photo on the background of the icon. He also demanded that the icon template be edited for the user through winword.

I do not really like MS Word automation of COM interfaces, because they are rather slow, it tends to hang. Maybe I should play with winword XML documents via XML DOM. Maybe there is a good free library that wraps the winword DOM or some libraries that come with Studio 2010 out of the box? What can you suggest?

• Ask the program to simply download the Word document and run the macro to print the tags. (You could even do this using the System.Diagnostics.Process class for simplicity. This is explained in this post from another forum and this MSDN post .)
