How to identify decent C ++ developers in informal gathering

I am going to an annual free software / agreement with Open Source. This event is very community oriented, and the entrance hall meetings are very informal. Since the company I am currently working in is looking for developers in C ++ (in the Linux environment), I printed the words "We are recruiting C ++ developers" in capital letters on the shirt.

I hope someone comes to me, introduces him and tells me that he is a C ++ developer and is looking for work.

What should I ask to evaluate my knowledge in C ++? I need a question that can be answered by standing in a crowded corridor with cookies in hand.

An example could be:

  • Why should a destructor be virtual?

Or perhaps another open-ended question, for example:

  • What is your least favorite C ++ feature?

Clarification:

This question is not a substitute for an interview, just suppose to give an idea of whether or not to invite a candidate for an interview.

In addition, we already have a very capable person who works full time trying to fill these positions. Since for my own selfish reasons I want to attend this conference (this is a fun event), I thought it might be an interesting experiment to try to use this unusual concentration of geeks. If this experiment works, I also want to have not just a random list of names, but a list of names with some indication of suitability.

I will report here, the results of this experiment, after the conference.

Conclusion:

The conference is over. Here is what I learned from this little experiment:
