IPC Solutions for Python Processes on a POSIX-compliant System

I have two Python processes that should interact with each other on the POSIX complaint system, since IPC I thought using a named pipe would be the easiest solution, however, since I'm new to Python, I suspect there are more options available. Anyone want to make a recommendation besides the named pipe?
