I just created my first Wordpress theme. I fixed it and installed it on the server using the Wordpress 3.0.1 control panel . It worked out well. But now I have made a few changes to my topic, and I want to update it. I could not find the “update” option for downloaded themes, so I tried just downloading it again. This is what I got.
Installing the theme from the downloaded file: my-theme.zipUnpacking the package ...Installing the theme ...Destination folder already exists. / Path / to / WordPress / WP Content / Themes / My-Theme /Theme installation failed.

Is there a way to update the theme through the admin panel? Or do I need to somehow access the file system (FTP, etc.) and delete the directory first?
You can do this through the control panel. Each theme has a Delete link that you can use to erase it from the server file system. Once it disappears, you can reuse your updated version.
