The management team at my company quickly abandons their blackberries and hugs the iPads. Right now they are still just emailing each other, but I'm starting to see some interest in getting some of our internal MIS applications running on the iPad so that they can quickly pull out some data during the meeting.
Our company is strictly based on Windows / SQL Server and has many internal WinForms and WPF applications. They, as a rule, “fill in some parameters on the form and receive applications with the filled data”. I assume that iPad apps will work the same at first. Ultimately, they may need a graphical display (simple linear and histograms). We also do a lot of GIS work with ESRI / ArcObjects, and this makes us think about moving some of them.
How practical is an iPad for enterprise applications? Is there a workaround due to the lack of print functionality (what Jobs thought !?) Can I install private internal applications without Apple’s approval or through the AppStore?
What hardware and software are needed to develop an iPad? What is equivalent to Visual Studio and how much does it cost? Are there any competent contractors who could use C # / WinForms apps for iPad?
