How to get started with graphic design web design?

Question

In past years, I have learned the most important languages ​​for web development (CSS, HTML, JS, PHP), and I can create well-structured sites.

But an important part of web design is the images used for buttons, background, text, gradients ... Also, the main logo is a very important element in the layout of the website.

However, I do not know how to get started on this side of web design to develop good websites.

What tools should be used for these purposes? Do you know good guides?

I have read one book and several photoshop guides, but they deal with graphic design in general, and I am looking for a guide / books focused on web graphic design , and (if possible) focused on how to correctly place these images using css and xhtml.
