How many records can be uploaded to Salesforce using the Apex Data Loader at a time?

We have to insert thousands of records into Salesforce using the Apex Data Loader. We use csv files to load data.

Well, there is no real limit to the data loader itself. From the Data Loader manual :

Use the data loader when: you need to load 50,000 - 5,000,000 records. If you need to download more than 5,000,000 records, we recommend that you work with Salesforce.com Affiliate.
