MySQL database does not exist, queries are automatically bridged to the correct db?

This is rather strange, but I have a script that so far has been causing db requests that existed only on another server, and now on my new server with a different name. However, the "host" has always been local. Is the user connected to a non-existent database on the local host and is somehow connected to the existing database?

Can someone please explain to me how everything works fine, although it certainly should not be? Currently, there is only one database.

Thanks for the explanation, I'm confused.
