Get default programs

I am using C ++ and qt for a project. I would like to know how I can get the default program: default navigator, default email client, default editor ...

I found for Linux - Gnome: gconftool!

What is Windows, Mac Os or Linux (KDE)?

On Windows, this type of material can be restored directly from the registry (regedit).
