How to import mysql dump when renaming some tables / columns rather than importing others?

I am importing the old db into the new version of our program, and I am wondering if there is a way not to import some columns / tables from the dump and rename other tables / columns when I import them? I know that I can edit the dump file in theory, but it seems like a hack, and so far none of my editors can handle opening a 1.3 GB file (yes, I read a question here about this. No, neither one of the answers has not worked for me so far.).

Suggestions?
