(memcached + relational db) vs nosql

Memcached + relational db looks like good solutions if you don't need to scale twitter or facebook size ... are there reasons why NoSQL would be preferable, even if high scalability is optional.

You can fake it with memcache by serializing attributes + values ​​in memcache repository.
