Get directions using Google Maps

I am wondering if it is possible to create a route on a map using a train track. I know its possible on normal roads.

It is certainly possible. (In a broad sense, anything is possible) :-)

The first thing you need is the location of the railroad tracks. For the United States, Canada and parts of Europe, this is publicly available as shapefiles, for example: http://www.lib.unc.edu/reference/gis/datafinder/index.html?search_type=show_category_contents&datalayers=1&category_id=109

IOS 4 introduces some new features, such as MKOverlay, which can overlay circles, polygons on the map. You can try this for drawing on a map.
