You might want to take a look at the epubjs library, which they posted at http://threepress.org/static/epubjs/ . This is a pure javascript implementation, most likely closest to what you are looking for.
If you don't need client-side javascript implementation, most likely you should look for a text layout engine, not something that is typical of EPUB.
