Operator Console Application - Java / Flex

We are in the middle to evaluate the choice of technology for redesigning the operator’s console application. The operator’s console as a hosted contact center has the ability to queue inactive calls and hold, answer, transfer active calls.

The old operator console uses Java Swing. We want to use the latest RIA (Flex / Silverlight) technology to exit the old version. But the question is, can Flex / Silverlight implement functions such as hold, transfer calls? Based on my experience, can Flex listen on a Java socket to receive XML data? Does it work well for voice data? Thank.

Flash / Flex has its own access to a computer microphone with the introduction of the latest versions of the player / AIR. But probably this is not what you need.

Yes, Flex supports open sockets and can output to the server. To receive voice data, you are best off using something on the server side, such as Flash Media Server or Red5 .

I am not sure about the technology for integrating such technologies with traditional telephone lines. You can consider Ribbit APIs as one of the solutions. I got the impression that Ribbit used Red5 under the hood; and it is intended for such telephony applications.
