Fingerprint matching SDK

I am looking for SDKs that can perform fingerprint matching. The rest of my code is mostly in C, so I prefer the SDK to have the C API. It would also be great if the SDK were free. Does anyone have experience with these SDKs and recommend any specific SDK? Also, looking at these SDKs, what important features should I focus on?

Another option you have is fingerprint scanners that perform what is called a match on the device. These scanners have built-in matching algorithms and databases that do all the work for you. You get all the licenses you need when you buy a fingerprint sensor. They are really useful in embedded applications.
