How can I make Ubuntu Firefox web pages look like Windows / Mac Firefox?

I just installed Ubuntu as my main operating system and I have a bit of panic. Is there any strategy for making browser default fonts / settings for browsers (and the OS in general) render similarly to Windows Vista or Mac OSX? I am afraid that the exact work in web design in this environment will be a complete guessing job.

Firefox does make fonts differently on Linux / Ubuntu , as there are no Microsoft TrueType fonts, and the default font settings are different. Try installing Microsoft TrueType fonts (Arial, Trebuchet MS) with

sudo apt-get install ttf-mscorefonts-installer

Then configure the font options in Firefox, i.e. open Firefox, select

Edit >> Preferences >> Content >> Fonts & Colors - Advanced

The ubuntu font settings are described below and work for me:

Fonts for: Western
Proportional: Serif, Size 16
Serif: Times New Roman
Sans-serif: Arial
Monospace: Courier New, Size 12

Suggestions use tools like this http://browsershots.org/ ; they are very slow, but can sometimes come in handy.
