Security Risk: OLEDB Excel

I am writing a web application that will read data from an Excel file provided by an authenticated user, opening him an OLEDB connection. Can someone tell me about security risks when opening an Excel file this way? I know that dangerous macros can be embedded in excel files, but is there really a risk when using an OLEDB connection?

No, there are no Excel security risks using OLEDB to read data from Excel workbooks. Any security risks will be performed through ADO (OLEDB), and not in Microsoft Excel. Therefore, macros are not a problem and are not cell formulas.

You might want to find an “ado oledb security excel” to satisfy your curiosity, but I don’t think you will find anything to worry about.
