Why doesn't the Expression Blend 4 designer work when we use build configurations?

I had a strange problem with Expression Blend 4. I have been using Blend 4 with Visual Studio 2010 for quite some time without incident (outside of beyond frequent crashes). Now our graphic designer wants to start using Blend to do some sorting work.

We were able to get Blend to compile the solution on our computer. Unfortunately, when we try to open any XAML file, we get errors from the constructor, where the resources included in the combined resource dictionary and attached properties are not recognized. Basically, it looks like assembly artifacts are not visible, although Blend compiles the solution without errors.

The only oddity in our setup is that our solution contains several build configurations, and you cannot change the build configuration in Blend.

Why do you assume that the Blend designer does not upload the files that he created?

When determining how Blend 4 creates Visual Studio projects / solutions, I found out why our graphical version of Blend is not working properly and fixed the problem. The many assembly configurations we installed are to blame. Here's the specifics of what I learned, and a list of warnings to someone else using multiple build configurations, Blend 4 and Visual Studio 2010.
