JBoss EJB2 Timer Service - Multiple Servers, One TIMERS Table?

I cannot find this in the JBoss documentation anywhere, so please here.

Can several JBoss instances with several not available and share the same TIMER table (as used by the EJB2 timer service) without violating each other, or each of them needs its own table?

In the case of a cluster, is it important that all nodes in the cluster have access to the TIMERS table or do they exchange information directly over the network?

Thanks in advance for some clarification!
