Specify an arbitrary folder as Android assets?

It seems that the Android resource compiler does not account for linked folders (in the sense of Eclipse) in the resource folder. Question: is there a way to force my folder of choice to be selected as an Android project asset?

Except for copying or tight binding to project resources, I mean.
