The serial number of the device displayed on adb devices

Iam using the command: adb

and get the following: C:> adb devices List of connected devices HT9CTP820385 device

My question is: where does this serial number come from? Is it burned when the device flashes once during manufectoring or adb dynamically assigns it dynamically or does it come with a release that burns on the device?

I have the same number (as adb gives me) printed under the battery inside my device. So, I think it burned at once on the flash of the device.

However, I cannot guarantee that it cannot be overwritten by the same process as the firmware of the new firmware / bootloader / radio.

On samsung g2 this number is written to /sys/class/android_usb/f_accessory/device/iSerial. It can be obtained by completing adb get-serialno.

Maybe a little off topic, but it’s good to know:

For all tested devices, the value returned Build.SERIAL(in android.os.Build) returns the same as that returned ADB DEVICES.

This will probably not be true for all manufacturers, but it is worth checking your test devices.
