Overview / understanding of architectural codes in eclipse

I have a maven project imported into Eclipse. I am trying to understand a code template (architecture). What is the best way to do this?

  • will use any UML Eclipse support for the plugin?
  • will use a sequence diagram to help with this?
  • what plugins should i use?
