Comparison of scalability between different DBMS

What is the coefficient of performance (reading requests / sec) that increases when a machine is added to a cluster of machines running either:

  • Database like Bigtable
  • MySQL?

Google's Bigtable research paper suggests that achieving β€œalmost linear” scaling can be achieved with Bigtable. This page here , using the MySQL marketing jargon, assumes that MySQL is capable of linearly scaling.

Where is the truth?
