MacBook for django development?

I am going to buy a new laptop (Asus G62) to replace my old ubuntu desktop. I will use it mainly for developing django (and some legacy win32 elements in virtual boxing).

However, since in the near future I will need to do some development for the iPhone, I'm starting to think that it would be wiser to buy a MacBook Pro instead of Asus, and then a cheap (so to speak ...) MacBook.

How good is the MacBook Pro for developing Django? I am currently using WingIDE on Linux and love it, how does the Mac version compare to Linux?

Is the transition Ubuntu โ†’ Mac OS difficult? Will I be able to use my knowledge on Linux? OTOH, I'm your average nerd, so I'm not sure if I'm Mac enough. In addition, having a double chin, the black neck of the turtle is out of the question.

Thanks in advance!

OS X is "nix", so you will probably come up to it. I have no problem with a Python developer (specifically Django) on my MacBook (home) or MacBook Pro (work).

I use MacPorts (including installing Python through port) to create a very Linux-ish command-line environment, although lots of Python developers seem to prefer Homebrew .

I had the same doubts, and in the end I bought a โ€œcheapโ€ MacBook for iOS development only. It was a wise choice: the longer I use it, the more I hate it.

You should keep in mind that if you are not used to the Mac OS GUI, this can be painful. It always hurts me to use a Mac for both the GUI and the keyboard ...

(My background: everyday work is done on Windows and at home, I often like Ubuntu, I love both).
