Android: is it possible to programmatically expand the range of WiFi?

I understand that this will probably require an increase in antenna power and thereby reduce battery life, but if I am ready to accept this, can I programmatically expand the Wi-Fi range?

It is not possible to expand the range of Wifi, since you do not have the hardware controls at such a low level to do this. You can try looking at the NDK , but I still doubt it.
