Did anyone know that I could find an algorithm or an algorithm that they could divide in order to divide a sphere (grid) into random parts?

I have a list of vertices and a list of triangles. I would like to split this single grid into, say, 5, randomly formed grids. When 5 randomly formed grids are in place, the sphere should line up and look like a solid grid.

I need an algorithm to do this programmatically, not a tool to create it. Any pointers would be great!
