Private Java source applications

I do programming, and we discuss Open Source and argue a bit for confusion. Just because Java is Open Source, a license for developed applications starts with a developer, right? Someone argues about using code from a complete program just because "Java is Open Source." If I am writing a Java application, what are the restrictions on how I can distribute it or how someone can use it? Suppose I do NOT want anyone to have access to my source.

thank

Thank. I understand obfuscation and will use it if or when I want to distribute closed source. As I mentioned in another answer, this request was more about someone arguing about being able to use another user's code because "Java is open source," although this particular code is not released and is not intended for use with open source.
