Do NetBeans and Eclipse (including most extensions) on OpenJDK without the original Sun JRE / JDK?

Is it possible to install only OpenJDK without the patented Sun JRE / JDK and use NetBeans and Eclipse without significant flaws?

Yes, you can. I am using NetBeans with OpenJDK on Linux.

You can only run OpenJDK or just Sun JDK, and I'm sure you can also run them side by side, if you want, using eclipse and / or netbeans. In my opinion, I think it would be better to go to Sun, but if you really prefer OpenJDK, I think it's pretty solid.

OpenJDK should be fully compatible with Sun JDK (in fact it is Sun JDK for the most part, with proprietary parts replaced by open source software).

Almost all Java software, including NetBeans and Eclipse, works without problems in OpenJDK.
