How to evaluate "corporate" platforms?

I have been commissioned to evaluate the "enterprise" platform for the next version of the product. Currently, we are considering two “types” of platforms - RAD (workflow mechanism, integrated user interface, small kernels of “technology plug-ins” for workflows, automatic state saving ...), for example SalesForce.com/Service-Now.com and "cloud" (EC2 / AppEngine ...).

While I have a few ideas on where to start, I would like your opinions - how do you rate the platforms for the corporate product suite? What factors do you consider? How would you eliminate weak options fast enough to focus on a few strong ones?

It’s also interesting how you would compare RAD (a proven technology that is rapidly developing, but, as a rule, looked just like the competition), cloud technology (a lot of “buzz”, and not many competitors - easy to justify management, but, probably lacking (?) corporate tools and experience).

As already mentioned, I have several ideas, but I would like to see some answers before I post my posts, so I would not discuss them in a specific place.
