Rails Under Construction Page

I know that this may seem trivial for someone, the other will not make sense, however - for me it would be great:

I'm trying to decide how to quickly and efficiently commit updates to my Rails application, switch to the style page under construction when I restart the rails application and then test the changes, and then when I'm happy, return to the live public version.

I am currently following the following pattern:

  • 1, make changes to the application
  • 2, make use of the Versions app for Mac in BeanstalkApp
  • 3, deploy the audit from BeanstalkApp to the server
  • 4, log in to the server and restart apache
  • 5, wait a few seconds, and then start a double check: all A-OK

If this helps, I use Passenger in the Turnkey Turnkey VPS image.

Thanks in advance for any advice, etc.

Thank,

Danny

You have several options:

  • Create a subdomain for "testing" and deploy it on your production server, and when it is verified, you can click it in place of your production code.

You will need to add a subdomain to your DNS record to specify the same IP address as your main production server. Then you will also need to add a new VirtualHost with ServerName subdomain.host.comand DocumentRoot /data/host.com/testing/publicso that it loads this code.
