How can I emulate / fake / import an SD card with a live connection to a computer?

Question

I have a car in a remote place, where as the only way out there is an SD card slot. I would like to read the result without having to physically switch to the machine and remove the card.

My idea is to place the PC next to the device and connect the slot for the device’s SD card to the USB port or serial port or to another input on the PC.

Is there some piece of equipment available for the device, like an SD card, but is it really a cable that can be connected to a computer?
