Practicing C in summer

I am a student with little experience in Java and C ++ (each semester each)

I am currently going through K & R and working on the exercises in the book. However, I was thinking about something I could work on during the summer, as I had almost finished working with K & R, and soon I would have a lot of free time.

I really like to create command line applications, so I was thinking about somehow participating in the coreutils project. My question is, is it too early for me to mess around with coreutils? Should I work on something simpler? I'm a little new to the Linux / Open source world, if that matters, but I really enjoy it.

I made some problems with the project euler and I don’t really like it.

Download Nethack sources. Play. If you ever go through this stage, add new and interesting monsters, weapons, traps and other objects.

There are many mailing lists designed for Android, and you can try to discuss some ideas from there.

And there is Google Summer of Code , if you can do it
